National ports strategy background paper, December 2010


This paper provides background information on the development of the national ports strategy.

In 2009, the Government announced that Infrastructure Australia and the National Transport Commission would develop a national ports strategy during 2010 for consideration by the Council of Australian Governments.

The report provides information on the current operations of Australian ports and their future infrastructure requirements. It discusses issues surrounding governance of ports as well as future planning and regulation.

It details the vision, objectives and priorities of the national ports strategy. It discusses the methodologies used and consultation processes undertaken to produce the strategy as well as submissions it received.
