Infrastructure Australia's (IA) Connecting the Dots conference will be held in Alice Springs on 6 and 7 February 2012.

National Infrastructure Coordinator, Michael Deegan, said the second event in the IA Conference Series will feature key government, business and community leaders as well as academics and Indigenous leaders.

“This conference is about shaping the future of infrastructure in remote Indigenous communities,” Mr Deegan said.

“It is more than just sharing knowledge and ideas; it will directly feed into IA's national strategic policy and funding model for infrastructure planning and development for Indigenous areas.

“Connecting the Dots will focus on the key areas of the provision and management of basic infrastructure; respect for cultural and heritage values; the need for meaningful targets; ensuring capacity building for communities, service providers and governing bodies; sustainable financing and funding; and efficient and effective governance.

“We expect the event to be passionate and even confronting, and that is what we want because unless we face up to ‘the now’ we can't progress into the future,” Mr Deegan concluded.
