In May 2016, Infrastructure Australia assessed the Ipswich Motorway Project (Rocklea to Darra) Stage 1c (Package 1) as a High Priority Project on the Infrastructure Priority List.

The project involves the closure of three motorway ramps, the upgrade of three ramps, an additional lane in both directions over a 2km stretch, a new one-way service road, upgrades on two bridges, and pavement rehabilitation. The Ipswich Motorway is a nationally significant freight route, and one the three busiest freight corridors in Queensland.
