Introducing the new Infrastructure Australia CEO

On behalf of the Infrastructure Australia Board, I am pleased to announce that Ms Romilly Madew has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Infrastructure Australia.

Romilly joins Infrastructure Australia at an incredibly important time for our organisation, and we are delighted to have her on board as we prepare to release the Australian Infrastructure Audit in mid-2019 and begin work on the next Australian Infrastructure Plan.

The driving force behind Australia’s sustainable building movement, Romilly has led the Green Building Council of Australia since 2006. She is recognised around the world as a leader in the property and construction industry, and is an experienced CEO with expertise in strategy, governance and policy development.

Romilly has forged strong working relationships with industry, government and community stakeholders through her current role and previous executive positions, including as ACT Executive Director at the Property Council of Australia and the National Client Relationship Manager for law firm King & Wood Mallesons.

As Chief Executive of the Green Building Council of Australia, Romilly represented over 650 companies with a collective annual turnover of $40 billion, and presided over the Green Star rating system, which has seen more than 2,250 projects certified across the country.

She has also held Board positions with the Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council, Sydney Olympic Park Authority and Chief Executive Women, and sat on numerous ministerial panels including the Cities Reference Group, National Urban Policy Forum and the China/Australia Services Sector Forum.

Romilly’s achievements have been recognised with national and international awards, including the 2015 International Leadership Award from the US Green Building Council and the 2017 World Green Building Council Chairman’s Award. An honorary fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia, she has been named one of the ‘100 Women of Influence’ by the Australian Financial Review and Westpac, and is a national and NSW winner of the Telstra Business Women’s Award.

I would like to sincerely thank Acting Chief Executive Anna Chau for her leadership of Infrastructure Australia over the past few months. Under Anna’s leadership, we have developed the 2019 Infrastructure Priority List, which is due for release in coming weeks, finalised six business case evaluations and delivered two papers in the infrastructure Reform Series: Outer Urban Public Transport and Planning Liveable Cities.

Anna will continue as Acting Chief Executive until Romilly commences her term in April 2019, after which Anna will resume her role as Executive Director of Project Advisory to lead Infrastructure Australia’s ongoing project assessment work.

Infrastructure Australia remains focused on developing the evidence base to guide nationally significant infrastructure investment and reform. We look forward to another productive year working with our colleagues in all levels of government, as well as industry and the community, to deliver better infrastructure for all Australians.
