This presentation to the 2011 Bike Futures Conference by Sara Stace of the Department of Transport and Infrastructure discusses the benefits for Australia's cities of encouraging residents to choose active travel (walking or riding) rather than cars.
Ms Stace claims that current transport use impacts on the productivity, sustainability and liveability of our cities. She makes a series of recommendations for overcoming issues and changing perceptions on active travel. She emphasises the need for clear messages and a coordinated approach to encouraging and supporting active travel.
