On 9 December 2016, Infrastructure Australia assessed the Bringelly Road Upgrade Stage 2 as a Priority Project on the Infrastructure Priority List.

The project complements the Bringelly Road Upgrade Stage 1, by upgrading a remaining 4.3km of two-lane rural road to a four-lane divided carriageway with a wide central median, allowing for future widening. The Bringelly Road Upgrade forms part of a wider program of works under the Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan, which responds to land release and the development of Western Sydney Airport in the area.
