In 2011, Infrastructure Australia moved the Cross River Rail project in Brisbane from ‘Real Potential’ (June 2010), to ‘Threshold’ on the Infrastructure Priority List.

The proposal involves the construction of an 18 kilometre rail line from near Salisbury, under the Brisbane CBD, to Bowen Hills (north of the CBD); with 9.8km of the project in tunnel.
