The business case is for the third stage of the Gold Coast Light Rail system, which currently terminates at Broadbeach. The project would extend the light rail approximately 6.7km south to Burleigh Heads, including eight new light rail stops. The project also involves substantial levels of urban renewal, including potential land use zoning changes within the Stage 3A corridor.
The business case was accepted for Infrastructure Australia's assessment on 15 February 2019.
On 23 August 2019, Infrastructure Australia added the Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3A project to the Infrastructure Priority List as a Priority Project.
