On 15 December 2017, Infrastructure Australia determined not to add the Haughton River Floodplain upgrade project to the Infrastructure Priority List.

The project aimed to upgrade ageing bridge and pavement infrastructure and mitigate flood risks. While the Bruce Highway is a nationally significant freight and passenger route in Queensland, this particular submission showed that the costs of the project were likely to exceed the benefits.
