In 2015, Infrastructure Australia recommended that the Main Road, St Albans Level Crossing Removal project submission be rated as ‘subject to further consideration’.
The project involves the removal of a level crossing at St. Albans, the lowering of the Sunbury rail line, the relocation of carparks, bus interchanges, and the construction of a pedestrian overpass and a new underground rail station. Infrastructure Australia noted that the costs of the project, as currently presented, are likely to exceed the benefits.
