On 21 October 2016, Infrastructure Australia rated the Western Sydney Airport initiative as a High Priority Project on the Infrastructure Priority List.

The airport, at the Badgerys Creek site, will operate for 24 hours a day as per the recommendation of the Australian Infrastructure Plan 2016. The proponent aims to deliver a single runway by 2026, a second runway by 2052, and long term capacity infrastructure by 2064.
