This report discusses Infrastructure Australia's methodology for prioritising key infrastructure projects of national significance and lists the priority projects that Infrastructure Australia has identified as a result of applying this methodology. The report sets out the seven-step analytical framework that Infrastructure Australia uses to guide its decision making on project significance.

Key points

As a result of the application of the methodology discussed in the report, Infrastructure Australia has constructed a list of priority projects under its seven key themes of national broadband network, energy market, international gateways, rail freight network, cities, essential Indigenous infrastructure and water supply.

It details:

  • nine initial priority infrastructure projects
  • a further 28 projects that will enter a ‘pipeline’ of priority projects requiring further analysis and consideration.
  • priority actions required to guide future activity under each theme.
