National Ports Strategy — 2011

Publication Date
01 January 2011

This report sets out priorities and actions for the national ports strategy, which was developed by Infrastructure Australia and the National Transport Commission following extensive consultation and engagement with stakeholders.

In 2009, the Government announced that Infrastructure Australia and the National Transport Commission would develop a national ports strategy during 2010 for consideration by the Council of Australian Governments.

The objectives of a national ports strategy were seen to be to facilitate trade growth and improve the efficiency of port-related freight movement across infrastructure networks through a commitment to the application of best practice policy-making and planning.

This report sets out four priorities for the national ports strategy and the actions needed to advance those priorities. It also includes 10 recommendations for the Council of Australian Governments and an implementation plan for the strategy.
