This assessment brief outlines the New South Wales Government's WestConnex project, which consists of around 33 km of interconnected road projects that will extend the M4 motorway towards Sydney city, widen the M5 East motorway and join those two motorways with a new tunnel running under the inner western suburbs of Sydney. The road projects will ease congestion, connect communities, create jobs and support long-term economic growth. The New South Wales Government is seeking Commonwealth funding for the project.
The Office of the Infrastructure Coordinator recommended that the project be included on the Infrastructure Priority List at Threshold.
