This assessment brief outlines the Northern Territory's proposal to upgrade the Tanami Road — a 703-kilometre road that links the Stuart Highway (19 kilometres north of Alice Springs) to the border of Western Australia. The upgrades will support mining operations in the Tanami region, create opportunities for the Indigenous population and reduce costs to government of delivering and maintaining infrastructure and services in the communities. The Northern Territory Government is seeking $126.6 in Commonwealth funding for the project.
The Office of the Infrastructure Coordinator recommended that the project be included on the Infrastructure Priority List at Threshold, with conditions.
