This is the first in a series of annual reports that examines progress against specific indicators of productivity, sustainability and liveability in Australian cities. It draws together existing data and information across a range of economic, social and environmental parameters to provide a comprehensive picture of 18 Australian cities with populations over 100,000.
The report outlines the significant challenges that confront Australian cities, including population growth and demographic change, transport congestion, living affordability, infrastructure development, productivity growth, climate change and ecological sustainability.
This report provides an evidence base to inform policy and investment decisions in major cities so that they can respond effectively to these challenges, sustain quality of life and remain globally competitive.
