The State of Australian Cities series reports on progress against specific indicators of productivity, sustainability and liveability in Australian cities as set out in the National Urban Policy.
This is the second State of Australian Cities report. It analyses current research and data, including data from the 2006 Census, to construct a comprehensive picture of how cities are faring against key indicators as well as changes in urban population and settlement. It builds on the knowledge contained in the first report published in 2010 and also brings together new data that compares cities with each other and cities internationally.
The purpose of the report is to provide an evidence base for policy and investment decisions in major cities, to explore trends in urban development and to inform people about the factors that are shaping cities and communities.
