Tasmanian ports and freight strategy report

This report by Infrastructure Australia was requested by the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport. It examines various matters in the Tasmanian shipping industry, including trends and developments, the operation of the Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme and other assistance mechanisms, port and logistics structures, implications of developments in Tasmanian and Victorian ports, recent relevant analysis and research in the area.

As a result of the review, many issues were identified, including high freight costs, inefficient infrastructure, fragmented supply chains and questions over competition, business plans and the effectiveness of the Freight Equalisation Scheme.

The report makes seven recommendations to address the issues that were identified.
